I'm Confused...

Can anyone explain what this is supposed to mean?

Hi Doug! I googled the quote, and came up with this website.

http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/207500.html

Apparently John F. Kennedy coined the phrase.

Kind of random for a church sign though. :-)

I like the new look of your blog! Do you take the pictures of these church signs, or do you find them online?

Have a good day!

Amanda :-)

I'm sad to say it.
But, I took the pictures of church signs in out town.

I thought that it had something to do with the election. But could not figure out what it was supposed to mean.

Hello again! Hmm, maybe it is election related in that, they are trying to say, rather than "cursing" the fact that Obama is going to be the next president, as Christians we should be a "Light"? Not sure, just a thought...

Oh, and even though the signs are disturbing, good job on the photos themselves, they look good!

ajs, good job finding the reference to the quote, though you should check it again, JFK did not coin the phrase, the origin is unknown.

What you have is an example of scripture being used and twisted by someone with no skill at being clear or Biblical. This is a vain attempt at being witty, but they have done nothing but create an inane reference to nothingness. It illustrates the vapidness of in the minds of leadership within today's Church that resembles nothing of Biblical Christianity.

It is also a statement of how many in the church have failed their flock by a limpid form of leadership that creates sniveling and weak Christians that find it "OK" to vote for someone like Obama who's first act of legislation will literally kill millions of unborn children. These church leaders are not capable of teaching truth and are robbing their members of the spiritual fortitude to make wise decisions backed up by sound reasoning to not vote for someone who does not value the sanctity of life.

This is a lesson of what to do if you do not want to be clear or helpful. We should pray for the church in America that strong and wise biblical leaders will rise up and save this nation from such idiocy.

It seems that the sign is a very lame attempt at humor. It is no wonder why the world does not take the church seriously. Signs like these are an embarrassment to Christianity.
Most church signs make me think of
Matthew 5:13.
"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men."

This sign doesn't seem very salty to me.

Very good points DLW and Doug! I totally agree! Oh, and thanks for pointing out that JFK did not coin the phrase, will have to make myself read a little slower next time!

Have a good day all!
